The Arkansas State Archives houses approximately 13,000 cubic feet of state records and manuscript collections pertaining to the history of Arkansas and its people. These materials have been described and inventoried for ease of access. These inventories, called finding aids, are keyword searchable. Separated Materials: Some archival collections contain materials that have been stored separately from the bulk of the collection due to those items' preservation needs. Generally, this affects collections that include artifacts that have been moved to the archives' museum collection, and the existence of artifacts in a collection has been noted in that collection's finding aid. Due to the nature of artifact and other separated materials, we require researchers to fill out an Artifact Access Form and send it in to state.archives@arkansas.gov, to schedule an appointment to view artifacts from the museum collection.

CSS Arkansas print, 1862 July 15
This collection contains a print of a drawing of the CSS Arkansas. in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on July 15, 1862. The print also has an image of Captain J.N. Brown. An image of Lieutenant A.D. Wharton is not visible due to water damage to the paper. The back of the drawing features a hand-written roster of the members of the crew of the ship. It says it was presented by Minnie Wharton Robinson, daughter of Lieutenant A.D. Wharton and Mary Kindrick Wharton. It is unknown to whom the drawing was originally presented. The collection also includes a list of men who served aboard the CSS Arkansas and autobiographical research on Arthur Dickson Wharton completed by the donor.

They include minutes and correspondence related to the Arkansas Synod, as well as material related to restoration of the Dwight Mission. The mission was established in 1821 to serve the Arkansas Cherokees. It was first located in Russellville, Arkansas, and then re-established near present-day Marble City, Oklahoma, after the Cherokees were required to move to Indian Territory in 1828.
