Description
This letter written by Creed Taylor explains his support of secession to his brother Samuel.
Biographical/Historical Note
Creed Taylor was born January 1, 1800, in Mercer County, Kentucky, to John Taylor (1767-1841) and Nancy Lewis (1776-1820). He moved to Arkansas in 1817, but returned to Kentucky, only to go back to Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, in 1821, where he remained. In 1830, Creed Taylor became the first sheriff of Jefferson County, and in 1836, he became the first county judge. In 1851, he was the Commissioner of Swamp Lands. In October 1821, he married Eulalie Vaugine and had two children: Eulalie and Anne Elizabeth. Eulalie Vaugine Taylor died in August 1827. In 1828, he married Marianne Valliere, Eulalie's first cousin. They had one child, Samuel. Marianne died in 1838. He married Mary Boone Jones in 1838. He died June 8, 1887, in Jefferson County. He is buried at St. Peters Cemetery in New Gascony, Jefferson County, Arkansas, near his three wives.
