Description

This collection contains the tax and property papers of the Swisher family in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and Sebastian County, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

Christian D. and Mary J. Swisher came to Sebastian County from Ohio in the 1870s and established a farm near Cole, Arkansas. They had four children, Dona, Oscar P., Perlie E., and Jettie. Oscar, born in1874, was their only son, and helped run the farm until his marriage to Sue Brown in 1902. Oscar and Sue moved to Hackett and acquired land in Sebastian County, Arkansas, and LeFlore County, Oklahoma. They had three children, Ray Swisher, Juanita Swisher, and Mary Elizabeth Swisher Wilson. Mary Elizabeth Swisher Wilson discovered this material in her mother's home.
