Cleveland County was established in 1873 from a part of Bradley County and initially named Dorsey County for Arkansas United States Senator Stephen Dorsey. After Dorsey became embroiled in controversy, the county was re-named in 1885 for President Grover Cleveland. Rison is the county seat.
