This collection contains one sworn statement by Willis Bennett against J.Z. and J.R. Breathwit dated November 4 1890.

Biographical/Historical Note

Cleveland County was established in 1873 as Dorsey County, named for a U.S. Senator from Arkansas who was later indicted for fraud, so the county was renamed in honor of newly-elected President Grover Cleveland in 1885. This sworn affidavit by Willis Bennett claims that the Breathwits owe him eight dollars for making bricks, and is attempting to place a laborer's lien on said bricks.
