Biographical/Historical Note
Arkansas Senate Concurrent Resolution 29 called for an observation of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the creation of Arkansas Territory in 1819. As a result, the Arkansas Territorial Sesquicentennial Committee was established by the Arkansas Commemorative Commission in March of 1967. Agnes McDaniel (Mrs. Charles F.W.) Loewer, a member of the Commemorative Commission and curator of the Old State House Museum in Little Rock, served as defacto chairman of the committee and led in planning its work. The committee sponsored a number of special events and issued a commemorative postage stamp, a medal, and a special edition "Colt" pistol. It also sponsored a special performance of the Philadelphia Symphony.
