Description

This collection contains correspondence, financial and legal documents, notes, newspaper clippings, photographs, and miscellaneous printed materials belonging to the Huffman-Quertermous family of Arkansas County, Arkansas. Mary C. Huffman Young, of New Bloomfield, Missouri, corresponded with her sisters Ellen, Jannie, and Annie, and her brother A.L. Huffman of Arkansas County, Arkansas. Mary Huffman Young's letters, describing farming and health in the late nineteenth century, comprise the bulk of the correspondence in this collection

Biographical/Historical Note

Samuel P.C. Huffman of North Carolina, and his wife Henrietta, lived in Missouri before moving to Arkansas County, Arkansas. Their daughter, Mary C. Huffman Young, remained in New Bloomfield, Missouri. In 1895 another daughter, Annie Huffman (1865-1957), married Virgil A. Quertermous (1863-1919) of Humphrey, Arkansas County. They had two children, Emmett and Louise.
