This collection contains historical material on the Great Seal of the Confederacy.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Seal of the Confederate States was adopted in 1863 and first used publicly in 1864. It included an image of the Statue of Washington as Richmond surrounded by Southern agricultural products with a margin surrounded reading "The Confederate States of America - 22 February 1862. Deo Vindice."
