Biographical/Historical Note
The United Daughters of the Confederacy was established in 1894 to commemorate the Confederate cause and care for the widows and children of Confederate dead. In later years, they also worked on documenting related history, producing pro-Southern literature, offering scholarships to participants that met their standards, and supported the KKK. An auxiliary organization, the Children of the Confederacy, also exists and is sponsored by the UDC.
