This collection contains a certificate of survey and plat showing block no. 13, Batesville, Arkansas, made at the request of H.C. Smith.

Biographical/Historical Note

Batesville is the county seat and largest city in Independence County, Arkansas. It was named after the first territorial delegate from Arkansas to Congress, James Woodson Bates. It was founded in 1821 and incorporated in 1822. The town has also gone by the name of Napoleon and Poke Bayou.
