Description

This collection contains one broadside, Special Orders, No. 23 (Headquarters, Department of Arkansas, Little Rock), discharging First Sergeant David Handley, Company K, Fourteenth Kansas Cavalry Volunteers, to enable him to accept a commission.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Fourteenth Kansas Cavalry Regiment served in the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War, seeing active service between April 1863 and June 1865. It was involved with the Battle of Poison Spring and the Battle of Jenkin's Ferry in Arkansas, along with other engagements in the area.
