This collection is comprised of genealogical research of the Murphy, Perdue, and Perry families. Materials include military service records, family trees, and biographical sketches.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Murphy family detailed in this collection came to Arkansas in the 1840s. Jesse T. Murphy, born in Georgia in 1797, and his wife Nancy G. Perdue, also born in Georgia in 1809, settled in Union County, Arkansas. The couple had nine children, all of whom grew to marry into local Arkansas families. Jesse and Nancy Murphy’s children built their lives and families in Arkansas. Jesse died in 1863 and Nancy died in 1879. Both are buried in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Union County, Arkansas.
