Description

This collection contains a list of Arkansas Spanish American War veterans from the First and Second Regiments.

Biographical/Historical Note

On April 25, 1898, the U.S. declared war on Spain after negotiations failed to quell a revolt in Cuba. On the same day, Congress requested two regiments of National Guard troops from Arkansas. There was no well-organized state company, so the state called for volunteers. The volunteers made up the First and Second Regiments of Arkansas Volunteer Infantry.
