Description
This collection contains a letter from Vera Margaret Dinning, Helena-West Helena Chamber of Commerce, pertaining to the centennial observance of the Battle of Helena. The letter is dated April 22, 1863.
Biographical/Historical Note
On July 4, 1863, the Battle of Helena was fought under the Confederate command of Lieutenant General Theophilus Holmes and Union Major General Benjamin Prentiss. The attack of Confederate forces on the Union's Fort Curtis ended in Confederate defeat the same day that Vicksburg fell to the Union.
