Biographical/Historical Note
The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT) is the department of the state of Arkansas tasked with management, interpretation, maintenance, advocacy, and acquisition of state lands for state parks in Arkansas. The department began in 1927 as a seven member commission, charged with surveying the state and selecting land to be used for public parks which would display the state’s natural beauty. ADPT not only promotes the use of state parks in the state of Arkansas for out of state visitors as well as residents, it also advocates protection for the state parks.
