This collection contains 14 pieces of correspondence to or from John R. Fordyce between the years 1917 and 1919 during Fordyce's service as a major in the Army Corps of Engineers.
Biographical/Historical Note
John Rison Fordyce (1869-1939) was the son of Samuel Wesley Fordyce, a railroad president and Hot Springs developer. During World War I, Fordyce served the Army Engineers' Reserve Corps and was constructing engineer for Camp Pike (Pulaski County). Due to the Fordyce family's business roots in St. Louis, Fordyce was also tasked with constructing clothing warehouses there for the Quartermaster Corps.
