Description
This collection consists of the organization and minutes of meetings of McCarthy Light Guards Militia Company in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
The McCarthy Light Guards were organized in Little Rock in 1887 and were named for John H. McCarthy, the local businessman who provided their uniforms. They were Company C in the 1st Regiment of the Arkansas State Guards. They developed a reputation as a competitive drill team, winning several competitions. They were also mobilized in 1894 to help with a railroad worker's strike.
