Biographical/Historical Note

The Mexican-American War, also known as the Mexican, War was an armed conflict between Mexico and the United States from 1846 to 1848. It followed the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered Mexican territory. The Republic of Texas was actually an independent country, but most of its citizens wished to be annexed by the U.S. It ended with an American victory and the recognition of U.S. sovereignty over Texas.
