This collection contains a V-Mail letter written by Captain John Martin Pemberton to his parents and three service pins worn by his mother Ruth Pemberton during World War I and World War II while her husband and son served.

Biographical/Historical Note

Harold "Hal" Jennings Pemberton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to John Martin Pemberton and Mary Langdon Pemberton in 1889. Harold Jennings married Ruth Holman and they had one son, John Martin Pemberton who was born in January 1921. John Martin Pemberton served during World War II with the 426th Night Fighter Squadron. After the war, Pemberton continued serving as a Captain in the 14th Army Air Force, the predecessor to the United States Air Force.
