Biographical/Historical Note
Pemelia (Pamelia) A. Halley Gaines Stall was born in Virginia in 1816 and died in 1888 in Scott County Arkansas. She and her first husband, James Foster Gaines (Gains) moved from Fayette County, Tennessee in 1837 to Parks, Arkansas. They had at least five children and owned several hundred acres of land in Scott County. She and her husband established White Methodist Church in Parks in the late 1830s, supposedly the first Methodist church in Scott County. A new building, built in 1852, was credited to her leadership as well. Mr. Gaines died in 1853 and she remarried an unknown Stall. At the time of her 1888 death, she was living with her daughter, Victoria Jameson. She is buried in the Jameson/Gaines family cemetery in Scott County, Arkansas.
