This collection contains a receipt for the purchase of one carbine, pistol and accoutrements, from the United States Government by John Plemons.
Biographical/Historical Note
As the Civil War came to an end, John Plemons, a Union soldier in the 4th Arkansas Cavalry, bought his weapons from the War Department in late May. After his regiment mustered out on June 20, 1865, he was required to carry this receipt to prove the legality of his purchase.
