Townsend Dickinson 1826 deed
Jacob St. John originally purchased the Northwest quarter of section 11 of Township 14 North in Range 4 East in Lawrence County, Territory of Arkansas. He defaulted on his 1824 property taxes totaling $2.40, which led to his land being confiscated by the Sheriff of Lawrence County, Joseph Hardin. After advertising the foreclosure in the Arkansas Gazette, the land was auctioned off at Davidsonville courthouse where Townsend Dickinson placed the winning bid. For two dollars, 65 cents and one-half cent, Dickinson covered the taxes and fees to acquire all 160 acres.

Journal of Alfred Finney at Dwight Mission, Arkansas, 1821-1822
This journal fragment of Alfred Finney's documents accounts and activities at Dwight Mission for the Cherokee Nation in Arkansas Territory. It discusses the operations of Dwight Mission beginning 2 years prior with a company of sick and feeble and without "tools teams or laborers" and details building specifications and the presence of a schoolhouse, cabins, dwelling houses, carpenters shop, Blacksmith shop, gunners shop, tool house, stable, corrals, and other out buildings. Other topics also include supplies, students, gifts of clothing and books, Christian goals, the work of other religious brothers and friends, correspondence to Natchez, New Orleans, Savannah, Boston, and brief mentions of the Mission at Mayhew for the Choctaw Nation and Shachton Mission.
