Description
These two documents provide lists of debts owed to William Searcy.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Searcy, a relation of the second Lawrence County Circuit Clerk Richard Searcy, was an affluent land owner in Kentucky. He loaned money to several community members in 1808 then paid Moses Graham to go collect the debts. These lists contain the names and amounts of those who borrowed money from Searcy. Many of these individuals moved from Kentucky to Arkansas in search of better land and opportunities. This is a rare document showing the migration of several families further west.
