Description
William Hix Senior is being granted the right to administer the estate of Riall Green, deceased, after posting a $500 bond. Solomon Huitt and Walter Pool co-signed the bond. Letters of administration convey authority to an appropriate person to manage the assets and liabilities of the estate of the deceased person.
Biographical/Historical Note
As first county clerk for Lawrence County, Lewis de Mun, penned numerous documents like this letter of administration. De Mun was an educated Frenchman who, along with his brothers, made America his new home. He had a beautiful flowing script and used his personal seal on official court documents because the County did not yet have its own seal.

Territory of Missouri County of Lawrence
To All who shall see these presents: Greeting
Whereas the Honorable the Circuit Court of the County aforesaid,
did on application of William Hix Snr. of the County aforesaid grant
Letters of Administration to him on the Estate of Riall Green deceased.
Now know ye, that the aforesaid William Hix Snr. Having
entered into Bond and security as the law directs in the sum of five
hundred Dollars with Solomon Huitt and Walter Pool for his securities
We do therefore hereby appoint him the said William Hix Snr. Administrator
of all and singular the goods and chattels, eight and credits of the
Estate of the said Riall Green deceased; to collect and secure all property,
and further to perform all and singular the duties of an administrator
of the estate of said Riall Green according to law.
In Testimony whereof I Lewis de Mun Clerk
have hereunto assigned my name and affixed my seal
(there being no seal of office) this 27th day of June 1815
and of our Independence the XXXIXth[sic]
