Description
This collection contains deeds and land records of Lawrence County from 1815 to 1958. All records are organized chronologically according to the date they were filed with the court.
Biographical/Historical Note
Lawrence County was created from New Madrid County, Missouri Territory, in 1815, and encompassed nearly half of present day Arkansas, plus a portion of present day southern Missouri. Land records such as deeds, abstracts, and other sales of land were recorded at the county courthouse. This group of records is part of a larger collection once housed at the Powhatan Courthouse donated by the Lawrence County Historical Society in 2010.
