This collection consists of 32 archive boxes of Lawrence County probate court records organized alphabetically by last name, 1815-1963. Probate records are most commonly the administration of a deceased person's estate, but can also be assigning a guardian to a minor, adoption, or declaring a person as insane.
Biographical/Historical Note
These records came from the Powhatan courthouse in Lawrence County. They encompass estate settlements of deceased persons and a few insanity cases. Most of these records have been microfilmed and, therefore, are only available on microfilm. Originals will be made available only in instances where usable microfilm copies are unavailable.
