Description

This collection includes meeting minutes, correspondence, and project-related documents for the Cooper Creek Watershed Improvement District between 1962 and 1980. These records document the planned impoundments, project contracts, and commission meetings. There are also drawings depicting the planned impoundments and affected areas within the Cooper Creek watershed.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Cooper Creek Watershed Improvement District in western Lawrence County, like many such districts in the state, was established in the early 1960s to assist in flood control. Although the project did not achieve all the goals set early on, it did result in the creation of several small dams. The collection was donated by the widow of one of the early commissioners of the district, Boyce Durham.
