Description
This collection of marriage certificates covers the years from 1872 to 1960. Although primarily pre-printed forms, there are a few written on plain paper, as well. These certificates generally show the name, age, and home town of the bride and groom, date of marriage, and date of application of marriage license. Not all have been fully completed, so some information, such as first names, may not be available. Parental information, including consent for marriage of a minor, is not included with these certificates. Several certificates in the collection have not been signed by a minister or official to indicate the marriage ceremony occurred.
Biographical/Historical Note
These marriages are part of a large group of county records once housed at Powhatan Courthouse, donated by the Lawrence County Historical Society in 2010.
