CITY WILL PUNISH
DISLOYAL ACTS
MADE MUNICIPAL CRIME
Conway Council Enacts Model Ordi-
nance Suggested by National
Council of Defense
From Wednesday's Daily
An ordinance for the suppression of
disloyalty and sedition and making
these offesnses crimes punishable in
the municipal court was unanimously
adopted by the Conway city council
last night. The rules were suspend-
ed so that the measure could be pass-
ed at one meeting. The ordinance
very minutely defines such acts and
utterances of disloyalty as are pro-
hibited and provides severe penalties
for infractions of its provisions. It
was passed upon the request of the
council of national defense, a model
ordinance submitted by that organi-
zation being presented and adopted
without amendment.
the meeting was the first regular
session of the new city council since
its preliminary organization effected
two weeks ago and continued until
about 11 o'clock. All members were
present except Alderman V.G. Craig.
Another ordinance raising the tax
on dogs from $` to $1.75 and provid-
ing that all dogs shall wear collars
and tags to be furnished by the city
was introduced and read the first
time, after which it was referred to
the ordinance committee.
City Marshal J.R. Piercey was re-
elected street commissioner, J.H.
Hartje was re-elected city accountant
and John Long was re-elected night
marshal by unanimous votes. The
election of a city attorney and a fire
chief were deferred until the next
meeting.
A council committee reported the
selection of Mayor G.W. Bruce's law
offices as a regular meeting place for
the council.
