Daily newspaper column depicting hand-drawn sketches on topics of Arkansas history. Drawings include a portrait of James Fagan, three people in a canoe, two steamboats docked outside of Fort Smith.

Transcription

April 24, 1864 Jas. F. Fagan commissioned major-general, served in Mexican War, colonel of First Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A., commanded brigade at siege of Helena.

Thomas Nuttall noted scientist and explorer reached Fort Smith April 24, 1819.

Col. Solon Borland with state troops forced federal troops to evacuate Fort Smith Apr. 24, 1862.
