Col. James N. Smithee noted Arkansas editor born Jan. 11, 1842 near Smithville, Lawrence Co.
Editor of Arkansas Gazette, Democrat, and Star at Little Rock worked on papers at Pine Bluff, Des Arc, Powhatan, Brownsville. Wounded at Battle of Helena 1863. Died 1902.
Capture of Arkansas Post, Jan. 11, 1863.
