April 14, 1830 Governor Simon P. Hughes born in Tennessee, farmed in Monroe County, admitted to Bar in 1857, lieut-colonel in 23rd Ark. Regt., practiced law at Clarendon, attorney general, assoc-justice of Supreme Court for 7 years, governor 1885-1889, died 1906.
Judge, governor, soldier.
