Cephas Washburn

Founded the first protestant school in Arkansas (Dwight Mission) and preached the first sermon ever preached in Little Rock

His son was Edw. Payson Washburn who painted the Arkansas Traveller

The Washburns- father and son- died in the same month and in the same house, that of Dr. R.L. Dodge in Little Rock

Dr. Dodge came west as a missionary to the Creek Indians-

He was a prominent temperance worker and founded the first temperance paper in Arkansas
