Description
This collection contains a list of errors on the territorial real estate tax list for Phillips County, Arkansas. The county judge ordered the list be audited by the Auditor of the Territory of Arkansas.
Biographical/Historical Note
Phillips County, created in 1820, is located in eastern Arkansas on the Mississippi River. Philips was cut out of Arkansas County and named after Sylvanus Phillips, an early settler of the region. Territorial property tax or real estate tax is a levy placed on the owner of the property to be paid to the government.
