Description

This collection contains two copies of H.M. McIver's story "Waterbound in Arkansas," a rough draft and final copy, and a Goodspeed article about H.M.'s father, Fountain A. McIver.

Biographical/Historical Note

H.M. McIver was born January 1,1875, in western Texas. His family moved to Rocky Comfort, Arkansas, in 1880, where his father, Fountain A. McIver, taught school. In about 1912, H.M. moved to Texarkana. He grew up hearing stories from Mexican and Civil War veterans, including those of his father and grandfather, both ex-Confederates. His work, "Waterbound in Arkansas," is an attempt to put some of these stories down on paper. Each chapter is about a particular individual or family, usually from Arkansas or Texas.
