Description

This collection contains typed copies of the journal of Releaf M. Smith Mason, dated September 6, 1838-April 14, 1840. A few explanatory notes are included from Miriam Hall, great-granddaughter, who transcribed and edited the original entries.

Biographical/Historical Note

Releaf M. Smith Mason wrote this journal while he was on a mission trip to the Creek Nation in Indian Territory. His wife also kept a journal, and some of those entries are also included. They spent most of their time on steamboats traveling to and from Indian Territory. The Masons were originally from New York.
