This collection contains one handwritten dedication written by J.M.D. Matthews for Agatha Marshall, November 2, 1869. This dedication was written about Agatha’s devotion to her Christian faith and the example she set for others.

Biographical/Historical Note

Agatha Smith Marshall was born to Francis and Annie Preston Smith in Botetourt County, Virginia on June 29, 1780. She was married to Dr. Louis Marshall and had four children. She died in Woodford County, Kentucky, in 1944 and she is buried in Frankfort Cemetery, Franklin County, Kentucky. Agatha was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Woodford County.
