Description

This letter was written by D.G.W. Leavitt to David Thompson, apologizing for the delay in appraising Thompson's land in Jefferson County.

Biographical/Historical Note

D.G.W. Leavitt served as Postmaster of Arkansas Post, Arkansas County, before he moved to Napoleon, Desha County, Arkansas. He served as Desha County Clerk 1844-1846. In the spring of 1846, he and a group of eleven men set out for California. They arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but disappeared shortly afterward, on the Old Spanish Trail.
