Biographical/Historical Note

Stephen Harris settled in Conway County, Arkansas, in 1825. In 1829, his house, which was located inWelburn Township, was made the temporary county seat, and came to be known as Harrisburg. Whenelections were held, citizens voted at the Harris house, and the Conway Circuit Court convened there. Hewas a farmer, and in 1840 had the largest farm in the area.
