This promissory note, from Stephen Harris to William Paul, is a photocopy.

Biographical/Historical Note

Stephen Harris settled in Conway County, Arkansas, in 1825. In 1829, his house, which was located in Welburn Township, was made the temporary county seat, and came to be known as Harrisburg. When elections were held, citizens voted at the Harris house, and the Conway Circuit Court convened there. He was a farmer, and in 1840 had the largest farm in the area.
