Description

This collection contains a bounty land grant given to William G. Davis for his service in the War of 1812and a receipt to Peter Worsham. The land grant was issued for eighty acres of land in any part of the United States.

Biographical/Historical Note

William Gaston Davis was born on December 30, 1794, in Union County, South Carolina, to Robert and Jane Davis. Davis served in Captain Faucett's Company, South Carolina Militia, during the War of 1812.He enlisted in October 1814 and was discharged on March 7, 1815. Davis moved to Tennessee after the war where he died on September 5, 1856. William Gaston Davis is buried at Old Salem Presbyterian Church, located in Collierville, Shelby County, Tennessee.
