This collection contains a letter written by William G. Dampier in Helena, Arkansas to his brother Lemuel Dampier in Mississippi dated October 12, 1847.
Biographical/Historical Note
William G. Dampier (1828-1876) was born June 5, 1828 to Stephen Dampier and Ann Nancy Dampier in Simpson County, Georgia. William G. Dampier traveled to Helena, Arkansas in October 1847 and was thinking of accepting a job offer as an overseer. A month later, he enrolled with the Mississippi Volunteers in November 1847 and served in Tampico, Mexico. Dampier died March 1876 in Mississippi.
