This collection contains a letter from Joseph W. Bocage to J. Perry, about the sale or possible trade of slaves, and news clippings about the history of Company H, 1st Arkansas Regiment, Mounted Rifles, written by Robert Dacus.

Biographical/Historical Note

Robert H. Dacus wrote the history of "Company H, First Arkansas Mounted Rifles" as a newspaper column in 1897. The column appeared in the Dardanelle Post-Dispatch. It was later printed as a pamphlet in 1909.Joseph W. Bocage of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, wrote a letter to J. Perry about the sale or trade of slaves in1859. Perry was in the First Arkansas Mounted Rifles unit with Dacus. He was wounded in Jackson, Mississippi, and later served as a quartermaster till his surrender.
