This collection contains two vouchers issued to Roane and Bell and Julia Roane after the destruction of their cotton crops.

Biographical/Historical Note

Confederate General Thomas C. Hindman ordered the burning of cotton, as a way to hinder the Union forces from seizing the crops after their occupation of Arkansas in 1862 during the Civil War.
