This collection contains documents pertaining to the lawsuit Elisha Baxter versus Sterling Tucker, et al. Included are the complaint and answer.

Biographical/Historical Note

During the Civil War, Elisha Baxter was captured in Missouri by Confederate troops in Spring 1863. He was imprisoned in Little Rock but escaped. He brought suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court against those who had imprisoned him. Baxter (1827-1899) served as Arkansas governor at the end of Reconstruction.
