Description
This collection consists of one scrapbook containing membership, meeting notes, newspaper clippings, and certificates. It includes a note stating, "Barton Library El Dorado, Arkansas, Given in memory of Elsie Bull, First President of the El Dorado Rose Society by the El Dorado Rose Society 1969."
Biographical/Historical Note
The El Dorado Rose Society was organized May 30, 1949 by Mrs. John Carter of Fort Smith, Arkansas. The first president was Mrs. H.C. Bull. Meetings were arranged for the third Thursday of each month for the months September through May, with no meeting in December. The group was a member of the American Rose Society, Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, and El Dorado Council of Garden Clubs. Collection materials note "the objectives of the society are the encouragement of horticulture and especially to increase the general interest in the cultivation of and improve the standard of excellence of the rose for all people."
