This collection contains a single scrapbook containing yearbook booklets from the El Dorado Self Culture Club 1903-1971. Yearbooks include meeting membership, meeting agendas, and famous quotes. The scrapbook has been disassembled due to conservation concerns. Yearbook booklets have been removed and placed in individual envelopes that are numbered according to original scrapbook page.

Biographical/Historical Note

This scrapbook was in "1971 recompiled by Mrs. A.W. Merritt in memory of Mrs. O.A. Bennett" and contains yearly booklets offering meeting dates, famous quotes from literature, topics of conversation, and lists of members. The El Dorado (Ark.) Self Culture Club was organized in 1900 and federated in 1901 as a women's club with the motto of "Altius Tendo" and a flower, the white rose. The club functioned to discuss noteworthy literature and topics and to participate in civic work. Newspaper coverage of the El Dorado Self Culture club included the El Dorado-News Times, Hot Springs New Era, the Arkansas Gazette, and the Arkansas Democrat.
