This collection contains documents related to Julian Alcele Byrd's military service during WWII. It includes registration documents and a letter to his wife written during his service time in the United States Army.

Biographical/Historical Note

Julius Alcele Byrd was born in Searcy, Arkansas, on November 18, 1918, to Alma Lee Byrd and Paul M. Byrd. He was married to Mable Elizabeth Byrd. He lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and worked as a nitrator operator at the DuPont plant until the time of his enlistment in the army in May of 1941. He died in October of 1980.
