Description

This collection contains an inscribed photograph, a World War II letter, and one World War II drawing pertaining to Roy Johnson. The collection also involves a number of artifacts, moved to the archives' Three-Dimensional Materials collection.

Biographical/Historical Note

Roy Johnson was born in Arkansas on November 16, 1916 to Thanual and Eva Johnson. He married Louise Whitehead in Saline County (Ark.) on March 17, 1949. Johnson was a farmer in the 1940s before serving as the Boone County (Ark.) Sheriff from 1947 to 1952. He continued his career in the law enforcement field, becoming a security officer for American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma, an Arkansas Beverage Control agent, and Chief of the Arkansas Public Service Commission-Enforcement Division. In 1957, Johnson became the Chief of the Arkansas Highway Police Division, serving until 1985 when he retired. He died on July 15, 1999, and is buried in Gillett Cemetery in Gillett, Arkansas.
