This collection contains one original piece of stationery and envelope from The Ward Hotel, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Ward Hotel in Fort Smith, Arkansas, opened on December 14, 1929, at 6th Street and Garrison Avenue. The building was designed by Marcel Boulicault of St. Louis, Missouri, and Haralson and Nelson of Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Ward Hotel cost $600,000 to build and furnish. The hotel was originally built with 165 rooms, a coffee shop, barber shop, and a ballroom. Later, the hotel expanded to include 200 rooms containing connecting baths. The Ward Hotel is listed with the United States National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building to the West Garrison Avenue Historic District in downtown Fort Smith, Arkansas.
